Seasonal Truck Maintenance Checklist (Canada)

By TruckTon Truck Accessories · Updated July 2026 · 1 min read

Canadian trucks live through four different sets of problems a year. This checklist covers the accessory and bed care that keeps everything working — print it, save it, or just do the bolded items and you're ahead of most owners.

Spring: undo the salt damage

  • Deep-rinse the bed, underbody and wheel wells to clear winter salt
  • Pull the bed mat, rinse both sides, dry, reinstall
  • Inspect bed paint for chips and touch up before summer humidity
  • Re-torque tonneau cover clamps and running board brackets — winter freeze-thaw loosens hardware

Summer: manage UV and dust

  • Wash and apply silicone protectant to tonneau cover seals
  • Wax or seal powder-coated surfaces — see our UV protection guide
  • Check cover latches and hinges; lubricate if stiff

Fall: winterize before the first freeze

  • Silicone the cover seals again — supple rubber won't freeze-bond to panels
  • Confirm the bed drains (under the mat) are clear of leaves
  • Fix any small cover leaks now — our adjustment guide takes 15 minutes
  • No cover yet? Fall is the time — read best tonneau covers for Canadian winter

Winter: small habits, big difference

  • Brush snow off the cover with a soft broom after big dumps
  • Rinse salt off the truck (and running board surfaces) every 2–3 weeks
  • Don't chip ice off seals — let the defrost cycle or a warm wash release it

The theme: protection beats repair

Every item above takes minutes; the damage it prevents costs hundreds. If your bed is still unprotected, start with the two workhorses: a tonneau cover on top and a rubber mat below. Both ship free Canada-wide with a 2-year warranty.
