Installing Running Boards Step-by-Step

Running boards are the most DIY-friendly accessory you can put on a truck. TruckTon running boards arrive fully pre-assembled and bolt to mounting points your truck already has — no drilling, no cutting, about 45 minutes total.

What you'll need

• Socket set with extensions
• The bracket and bolt kit included in the box
• A jack stand or a helper to hold the board at height (optional)

Step 1: Locate the factory mounting points

Look under the rocker panel (the body section below the doors). Trucks like the F150, RAM 1500, Silverado and Sierra have threaded mounting points or slots from the factory — that's what the brackets bolt into.

Step 2: Hang the brackets loosely

Bolt each bracket to the mounting points finger-tight. Don't torque anything yet — you'll want adjustment room when the board goes on.

Step 3: Mount the boards

Lift the board onto the brackets and start all bolts before tightening any. Check that the board sits level and the gap to the body is even front to back.

Step 4: Torque everything down

Tighten brackets to the body first, then board to brackets. Step on each board firmly — zero flex or movement is what you want. TruckTon boards are rated for 300 lbs per side.

A note on installation service

We don't offer in-store installation for running boards — but this is the product that least needs it. If you can assemble furniture, you can install these.
