Ask two F-150 owners how long their truck beds are and you may get two different answers — and both of them might be wrong. Ford F-150 bed sizes come in three lengths: the 5'5" short box, the 6'5" standard box, and the 8' long box. Which one is bolted to your frame decides how much you can haul, whether you fit in an underground parkade, and — the part we care about most — which tonneau cover, bed mat, or truck cap will actually fit your truck.

The Three F-150 Bed Sizes at a Glance
Ford has offered the same three box lengths on the F-150 for years, and the marketing names are rounded — the actual floor measurements are a little different:
- 5'5" short box — roughly 67 inches (about 170 cm) of floor length
- 6'5" standard box — roughly 78.9 inches (about 200 cm)
- 8' long box — roughly 97.6 inches (about 248 cm)
Width and depth are essentially the same across all three on modern trucks: about 65 inches wall to wall, roughly 50 inches between the wheel wells, and around 21 inches deep. That 50-inch number matters — it's why a 4-foot-wide sheet of plywood rests on top of the wheel arches rather than flat on the bed floor.
How to Measure Your Bed (Don't Trust the Badge)
There's no badge on the tailgate that tells you your box length, and eyeballing it is how people end up returning tonneau covers. The right way takes thirty seconds: close the tailgate, hook a tape measure on the inside of the bulkhead (the wall behind the cab), and measure along the bed floor to the inside face of the tailgate.
If you get roughly 67 inches, you have the 5'5" box. Around 78–79 inches is the 6'5" box. Anything near 97 inches is the 8' long box. Which Cab Comes with Which Box
Ford doesn't let you pair any cab with any bed, which is actually useful — your cab narrows things down:
- SuperCrew (full four-door): 5'5" or 6'5" box
- SuperCab (smaller rear doors): 6'5" or 8' box
- Regular cab: 6'5" or 8' box
Note what's missing: there's no SuperCrew with an 8' box. A crew cab with the 6'5" bed is already a long truck — worth remembering before you commit to a downtown Toronto parkade in January with a snowbank on either side of the entrance.
The 5'5" Short Box: The Everyday Canadian Choice
The 5'5" box paired with the SuperCrew cab is what you'll see most often in Canadian driveways, and for good reason: it fits in most garages and parkades, it's easier to park in a Costco lot, and it still swallows hockey bags, groceries, and a weekend lumber run with the tailgate down.
Because it's the most common configuration, accessory fitment is excellent. The 6'5" Standard Box: The Work-and-Play Sweet Spot
The 6'5" box is the compromise that doesn't feel like one. You get about a foot of extra floor over the short box — enough to slide in sheet goods with the tailgate down and keep them mostly supported, haul a snowblower without Tetris, or load a couple of toboggans flat. On the SuperCab and regular cab it keeps overall truck length reasonable.

The 8' Long Box: The Tradesman's Bed
The 8' box is the working bed: full sheets of plywood or drywall lie in it with the tailgate closed, and it's the standard choice for contractors running ladder racks and job boxes. The trade-off is a very long truck that's paired only with the regular cab or SuperCab.
