The best tonneau cover for a Ford Ranger depends first on which Ranger is in your driveway, because Ford changed the bed when it redesigned the truck for 2024. The box lost about an inch and a half of length, so a cover that fit a 2021 won't go on a 2025.
We'll be straight about our own range as well. We stock two tonneau covers for the Ranger, a soft tri-fold and a manual retractable, and nothing in between. If you had a hard folding cover in mind, we don't make one for this truck, and further down we say what we'd do in your place.
Short answer: For most Canadian Ranger owners, a soft tri-fold is the best-value tonneau cover. It fits both the 5' and 6' boxes, clamps on in about 30 minutes and lifts off when you need the whole bed. If you need a cover that locks, or want racks above the bed, choose the retractable. It's made for the 5' box only.
Which Ford Ranger Bed Do You Have?
Ford brought the Ranger back to Canada for the 2019 model year and sold that truck through 2023 in two layouts: the SuperCrew with four full doors and a 5' box, and the SuperCab with half-width rear doors and a 6' box. The redesigned 2024 truck comes one way. J.D. Power's first-drive review puts it plainly: every 2024 Ranger is a SuperCrew with the 5-foot bed, and the SuperCab and its 6' box were dropped.
The two 5' boxes aren't the same box, though. These are Ford's published figures, with the current truck's taken from Ford Canada's Ranger specifications:
| Ranger | Sold as | Inside length at the floor | Between the wheel wells |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2019–2023 SuperCrew | 5' box | 61.0 in | 44.8 in |
| 2019–2023 SuperCab | 6' box | 72.8 in | 44.8 in |
| 2024 and newer SuperCrew | 5' box, the only one offered | 59.6 in (1,514 mm) | 48.2 in (1,224 mm) |
That 48.2 inches is the number Ford likes to talk about, because a 4-foot sheet of plywood now lies flat between the wheel wells. For a tonneau cover the length matters more. A cover is built to the rails of one bed, which is why ours are listed separately for 2019–2023 and 2024–2026 trucks even when both say 5'.
Telling them apart takes a few seconds. A 2024 or newer Ranger has the 59.6-inch box, full stop. On a 2019–2023 truck, four full-size doors means the 5' box and the little rear half-doors mean the 6'. If you're buying used and the paperwork is vague, measure the bed from the bulkhead to the inside of the tailgate before you order.
Best Value: Soft Tri-Fold
The Ford Ranger Soft Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover is the one we'd put on most Rangers. It's heavy-duty, weather-resistant vinyl over an aluminum frame, held to the bed rails by clamps. Nothing gets drilled, the install is listed at about 30 minutes, and the cover folds toward the cab in three sections. We list it for the 5' and 6' boxes on 2019–2023 trucks and for the 2024–2026 truck.
It's also the lightest style we sell, and on a mid-size truck that counts for a lot. Plenty of Rangers carry hockey bags and groceries all week and then get asked to move a snowblower or a load of firewood on Saturday. Release the clamps and a soft tri-fold lifts off, then leans against the garage wall until Sunday night.
If you have the SuperCab with the 6' box, this is the only Ranger tonneau cover we stock that fits it.
The honest trade-offs. Vinyl can be cut, so a soft cover keeps your gear out of sight without really locking it up. It isn't built to carry weight, and heavy wet snow should be brushed off before it sits for a week. If tools live in the bed overnight in a condo parking lot, a soft cover is the wrong one. Our hard vs soft tonneau cover comparison goes through the differences.
Step Up: Manual Retractable
The Ford Ranger Manual Retractable Low Profile Tonneau Cover doesn't fold at all. Double-walled aluminum slats run in a low-profile rail down each side of the bed and wind into a stainless-steel canister behind the cab. Pull it as far closed as you like and lock it there with the key. Shut, it's rated to carry 500 lb spread evenly across the top.
Each rail also has a T-slot channel that takes most name-brand racks and crossbars. A 5' box fills up fast on a camping weekend, and this lets bikes, a kayak or a cargo box ride above a bed that's closed and locked underneath them.

The honest trade-offs. It's made for the 5' box only, in separate versions for 2019–2023 and 2024–2026 trucks, so SuperCab owners are out of luck. The canister stays at the bulkhead and takes a slice of floor length you'll notice on a box this short, so ask us for its dimensions if you carry something that needs every inch. Installation runs about 90 minutes and the drain tubes may need minor drilling depending on your bed. And it costs more than three times what the soft tri-fold does. If you'll never mount a rack on it, that's a lot of money for a lock.
What We Don't Have: A Hard Folding Cover for the Ranger
We make hard tri-fold covers for the F-150, the Super Duty and the Maverick. We don't make one for the Ranger. That leaves a real gap in our range for this truck, between a vinyl cover and a retractable at several times the price.
If hard folding panels at a mid-range price are what you want, buy one from someone who makes it for your Ranger. Before you pay, check three things on the listing: that it names your generation (2019–2023 or 2024 and newer) and your box, that the price is in Canadian dollars with shipping to your door included, and that there's a Canadian phone number for warranty claims. We'd rather you ended up with the right cover from another shop than the wrong one from us.
Or Skip the Lid and Fit a Cap
Some Ranger owners shopping for a tonneau cover really need height. If you hunt, camp out of the truck or carry tools that won't lie flat, look at the Ford Ranger aluminum truck cap with windows. It has a lift-up tinted window on each side, a locking rear door and rails along the roof, and it clamps to the bed rails with no drilling. It ships unassembled by freight, and assembly takes about two hours with two people.

A cap costs a good deal more than either tonneau cover, and you give up the open bed until you unclamp it. Our guide to truck caps, canopies and toppers covers what to compare before you spend that kind of money.

Before You Order: Four Ranger Things to Check
The year range on the listing
This applies anywhere you shop. A listing that just says "Ford Ranger 5' bed" isn't specific enough, because there are two different 5' boxes. It should name 2019–2023 or 2024 and newer.
Ranger Raptor
Ford Canada publishes the same bed dimensions for the Raptor as for the other current trims. Our listings don't call the Raptor out by name, though, so call us before you order and we'll confirm it for your truck.
Bed liners
A spray-in liner adds almost nothing at the rail and causes no trouble. A drop-in liner that wraps over the bed rail can get in the way of a clamp. We go through the fixes in using a tonneau cover with a bed liner or bed mat. If the bed floor is bare, the Ford Ranger bed mat sits under either cover without touching the rails.
Winter
A Ranger that lives outside in Ontario or on the Prairies will probably greet you some January morning with its cover frozen to the tailgate. Cleaning the seals and wiping them with silicone in the fall prevents most of that. If it happens anyway, here's how to open a frozen tonneau cover without breaking it.
Ordering and Installing
Pick your box and your year range on the product page. That's the whole fitment decision. The soft tri-fold is a driveway job with the clamps already on the frame: set it against the bulkhead, clamp the front, unfold it, clamp the back. The steps are the same ones in our F-150 tonneau cover install guide, on a smaller truck.
Our Ranger covers ship free within Canada (Yukon and the Northwest Territories excepted), carry a 2-year limited warranty, and can be returned within 30 days if they haven't been installed. If you're within reach of Burlington, Ontario, order for pickup at 1220 Corporate Dr and we'll install it free. That's worth the drive for the retractable in particular. Questions first? Call 1-888-651-3091 with your model year and cab.
Common Questions
Will a tonneau cover from a 2019–2023 Ranger fit a 2024 or newer Ranger?
No. Ford redesigned the bed for 2024. The 5' box went from 61.0 inches to 59.6 inches long, so covers are made separately for each generation. Order by year range as well as box length.
What size is the Ford Ranger's bed?
On 2019–2023 trucks, the SuperCrew has a 5' box (61.0 inches at the floor) and the SuperCab has a 6' box (72.8 inches). From 2024 on, the Ranger comes with one cab and one box in Canada: a SuperCrew with a 5' box that Ford lists at 1,514 mm, or 59.6 inches.
Is a soft tonneau cover good enough for a Canadian winter?
For keeping snow, slush and road salt off your cargo, yes. It isn't meant to hold weight, so brush heavy snow off instead of leaving it to pile up, and keep the seals clean so they don't freeze to the tailgate.
Can I carry bikes or a kayak with a tonneau cover on a Ranger?
With the manual retractable, yes. Its rails have T-slot channels that take most name-brand racks and crossbars, so the load rides above a closed, locked cover. The soft tri-fold has no rack mounts.
Do I have to drill the bed to install a Ranger tonneau cover?
Not for the soft tri-fold, which clamps under the bed rail and leaves no holes. On the retractable, the rails clamp on as well, but the canister's drain tubes may need minor drilling depending on your bed.
Is there a tonneau cover for the 6' Ranger box?
Yes. Our soft tri-fold is made for the 6' box on 2019–2023 SuperCab trucks. Our retractable is not; it's built for the 5' box only.
